Walk and Talk Therapy in Fort Myers, Florida

“Nature has the power to heal because it is where we are from, it is where we belong, and it belongs to us as an essential part of our health and our survival.”

~Nooshin Razani

What is Walk and Talk Therapy?

Walk and Talk Therapy, or otherwise known at Nature Based Therapy, is an approach based in mindfulness that takes the therapy environment from the couch to the outdoors. This approach can be beneficial in creating body movement during the processing of anxiety, depression, and trauma. Walk and Talk Therapy consists of a walk through nature trails for the duration of the therapy session. The pace is determined by the client as well as any needed breaks to ensure comfort. Body movement is an incredibly effective tool in improving mental health, so why not take advantage of it while in your therapy session?!

The initial session will take place in the office to complete the assessment, collect history, and determine if Walk and Talk therapy will be beneficial to you. Once we begin Walk and Talk therapy outdoors, we will meet at the location and take a scenic walk through a nature trail. We will walk side by side and conduct the therapy session as if we are sitting in the office. There will be opportunities for sitting breaks throughout the session in case you feel like you need a moment to sit.

What happens in a Walk and Talk Therapy session?

There will be no indication to others on the nature trail that you are talking to a therapist. Clothing worn by the therapist will be comfortable, hiking appropriate clothing with no logos. Additionally, nature trails chosen by the therapist have been vetted to be of low population during Walk and Talk therapy hours. The therapist and client will discuss prior to beginning Walk and Talk therapy what the protocol will be in times of passing others, such as talking lowly or pausing until passing.

How will confidentiality be upheld in Walk and Talk Therapy sessions?

Walk and Talk Therapy will take place at Koreshan State Park or the John Yarbrough Linear Park located off Six Mile Cypress across from Sun Harvest. The location will be agreed upon by the therapist and client depending on the best location for the client.
